The Patriots spared no expense for the gifts they gave Donald Trump following their championship visit with the president.
Typically, championship teams, upon visiting the White House, give the commander in chief items such as a team jersey, a cap or helmet, and a ball.
However, New England took it a step further after winning Super Bowl LI by giving Trump his own custom Super Bowl ring, USA Today confirmed.
Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci had shared the news, which was first reported by a Patriots community on Reddit.
According to multiple reports, the Super Bowl ring that the Patriots won after the 2014 season each cost $36,500. If the newest ring is anything close, the president will have to give it to the National Archives upon the conclusion of his term in office — because the value limit for gifts given to the president cannot exceed $375.
But then again, what price can you put on friendship? And Patriots owner Robert Kraft has been very forward about his friendship with Trump. Russian president Vladimir Putin also owns a Patriots Super Bowl ring, though it was not given in the name of friendship.
According to Page Six, Putin had stolen a Super Bowl ring from Kraft in 2005 during a meeting.
“I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, ‘I can kill someone with this ring,’ ” Kraft said. “I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out.”
While the Patriots gave Trump a Super Bowl ring, he might not even get a visit from the current NBA champion.
